The Center for Public History, UH Libraries, and the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute are excited to host the 2024 Student Data Showcase in Digital Humanities and Engaged Data Science. Please join us as students from the Summer Internship in Public History and Digital Humanities (SIPHDH) and the Pharis Fellowship Program share their research into the intersection of data and the human experience.   

Over ten weeks, both SIPHDH interns and Pharis fellows have engaged diverse data sets and research questions in collaborative and interdisciplinary discussions, skills workshops, and guest presentations. SIPHDH interns joined one of six faculty projects and worked as a cohort to learn how digital tools and new media can be leveraged for historical storytelling, social justice, and community preservation. Pharis fellows focused on the application of data science approaches and health modeling to better understand the social determinants of health. Thanks to the UH Digital Humanities Core Facility, all students had the opportunity to earn a micro-credentialing certificate in digital project development for their resume.

In the 2024 showcase, teams of interns and fellows reflect on their summer work and how it shaped their understanding of effective communication, social responsibility, and the role of data and digital methods.
